Indian agriculture system to be preserved in MP :Dr. Kusmaria

Seminar held on 'Relevance of genetically modified seeds in Indian farming'
Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that no such decision will be taken in the agriculture sector of the state which might pose crisis for the age old Indian system of agriculture. 
Dr. Kusmaria was addressing a seminar on the subject 'Relevance of genetically modified seeds in Indian farming' at Academy of Administration here today. On this occasion he also released a CD prepared on traditional farming by Shri Harishankar Pawar and a book 'Baingan ko keet mukt rakhne si paramparagat vidhi' (Traditional method of keeping brinjals safe from insects) written by agriculture scientist Dr. Ramanjaneyulu.
Farmers Welfare Minister Dr. Kusmaria said that the new Organic Policy is going to be released in Madhya Pradesh soon. The purpose of formulating this policy is to attract large number of farmers towards organic farming. Dr. Kusmaria said that all possible help will be extended to the NGOs which help in popularising organic farming. The Agriculture Minister said that Bt Brinjal seeds prepared by multinational companies will not be allowed in Madhya Pradesh.
Chief of Voluntary organisation 'Samwad, Jabalpur, Shri Jayant Verma said that multinational companies are setting their eyes on the large market of seeds in India. For this purpose they want to dump genetically modified seeds in the country. Agriculture scientist Shri Pushp Bhargava said that in 1895, the Britishers had made a survey of Indian and European systems of farming in which the Indian system was found better. 
He pointed out that the use of genetically modified seeds is banned in many countries. Dr. Bhargava stressed the need of extensive tests of such seeds in Indian agriculture research laboratories. Managing director of Madhya Pradesh Rajya Krishi Vipanan Board Shri Vivek Agrawal justified the decision to implement new researches only after comprehensive tests.
Director of Academy of Administration Shri MK Varshney informed that Indian system of farming is thousands of years old and we should conserve this system while adopting new techniques.
Presiding over the seminar, senior journalist Dr. LS Herdenia said that it has been the history of European countries that they want to destroy the economy of developing countries in the name of modern techniques. He made a call to protect Indian system of farming unitedly.
The seminar was conducted by Shri Harishankar Pawar while Sushri Garima proposed a vote of thanks.
