Governor Shri Thakur pays tributes
Bhopal:Wednesday, October 21, 2009:Updated 16:29IST On the occasion of Police Memorial Day, Governor Shri Rameshwar Thakur offered floral tributes to martyred police officers and Jawans at the Shaheed Smarak here today. Expressing gratitude towards families of the martyrs, the Governor assured them that the administration is with them through their thick and thin.
Governor Shri Thakur said that the practice of Jan-Sunwai right from PHQ to police station level is commendable. It is the need of the hour to make police more sensitive and approachable with a view to winning people's trust.
Praising the police force for elimination of dacoit gangs, checking Naxalite violence, successful drive against terrorists and strict security measures during Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections, the Governor said that constant efforts must be undertaken to ensure quality in police forces' work.
He said that though the situation has improved through modernisation, yet much more is needed to be done. Shri Thakur also praised peace-loving citizens of the state adding that it is due to their disciplined behaviour that Madhya Pradesh is counted among peaceful states of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Shri S.K. Raut said that the feeling of sacrifice in the police force is a source of inspiration. He informed that Naxalite violence is less in Madhya Pradesh as compared to other affected states.
But due to action against Naxalites in other states, Madhya Pradesh is coming under added pressure. Shri Raut said that police are fully alert in view of chances of Naxalites' entry into the state. An Anti-Terrorist Squad has been constituted to deal with terrorists and officers and Jawans are being given specialised training.
On the occasion, Inspector General of Special Armed Forces Shri Vijay Yadav read out the names of 833 police Jawans who laid down their lives during the last one year. A salute was given to the memorial. Serving and retired police officers also offered floral tributes to the martyrs.
The parade was led by Additional Superintendent of Police of Bhopal Shri Chandrashekhar Solanki. Those present on the occasion included chairman of Police Housing Corporation Shri Raman Kakkad, DG Home Guards Shri S.K. Sarin, Principal Secretary Home Shri Rajan S Katoch and Additional Director General of Police SAF Shri Surendra Singh.
