The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh has announced that a rural technology application center would be set up at Bhopal under Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCOST). The center would identify traditional knowledge and the persons possessing the same and make efforts to encourage and preserve them, he added.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating a two-day Madhya Pradesh Gramin Praudyogiki Parva at Vigyan Bhawan here to mark the Vishwakarma Jayanti.
The Chief Minister said that significance of rural science and technology consists in ensuring their maximum benefits to the poor and traditional artisans. Elaborating on the benefits of rural technology Shri Singh said that while it brings about social changes in tune with local environment and culture it also makes villages self-dependent. He said that science and spirituality are complementary to each other and India has also stood for a proper blend of the two for the welfare of mankind.
Shri Chouhan was all praise for the efforts being made by MPCOST for upgradation of the skills of traditional artisans as also its talent search programme. Shri Chouhan said that the state government has increased the budgetary allocation for the Council and funds would not be allowed to be an impediment in its works, he assured.
The Chief Minister went round the exhibition put up on the occasion and talked to the artisans there. He also released three books published by the Council on the occasion.
The Minister for Science and Technology Shri Kailash Vijaywargiya said that India is a country of immense potential possessing rare scientific and technological knowledge. The need is to preserve the traditional knowledge and technology and document it in easy language.
Member of the scientific advisory board of the Prime Minister Major S. Chaterji also spoke on the occasion. He informed that a nodal center of rural technology would be set up soon at the MPCOST by the central government.
Director General of the Council Prof. Pramod K. Verma delivered the welcome address and threw light on Council’s activities. He also presented mementos to the guests. Dr. Rajesh Sharma made a presentation on the planetarium of international standards being set up at Dogala and world’s fourth and country’s first hybrid planetarium at Ujjain.
At the outset, the Chief Minister and Shri Vijayvargiya performed puja of Bhagwan Vishwakarma in the centre’s premises. Artisans Shri Ramkumar Thakur, Sushri Seema Bhaumik and Sushri Maya Kaul welcomed the guests. Project Director Shri N.P. Shukla proposed a vote of thanks.
