Obama administration continues to ignore India

 New Moore island Is No More due to the rising sea
Many newspapers have carried photographs of the burning heritage building, Stephen Court, on Park Street in Kolkata, and the efforts to rescue people from it. Furious residents alleged that the impact of the tragedy could have been contained had the fire brigade acted more promptly, writes The Hindu.
"Maoists disrupt life, kill 2, blast tracks" reads the headline in The Tribune, referring to stepped up violence by the Maoists on Day 2 of their 48-hour bandh. The railways have imposed a 75 km per hour limit on trains passing through Naxal areas, reports The Times of India.
Newspapers have also widely reported the suicide yesterday, by Kanu Sanyal, one of the founders of the Naxalite movement.
"Hold on for date with Headley, need to set it up with Justice: US to India" is the headline of the top story in The Indian Express. Calling it a U-turn by the US, The Pioneer writes that the Obama administration continues to ignore India's sensitivity in its handling of Headley.
Narendra Modi has responded to the Special Investigation Team summons, saying that he's ready to make an appearance, provided the team's investigators are convinced of the propriety of their interrogating him, when an appeal on their remit is due to be heard by the Supreme Court on April 5th, reports The Hindu.
The top story in The Asian Age refers to the call by the Expert Committee of River Valley Projects to halt all work on the Sardar Sarovar Project and the Indira Sagar Project citing non-compliance with environmental norms.
The top story in Hindustan Times refers to the expected clearance of the food bill, by the Cabinet this week, but points out that the project falls for short of the sweeping proposals indicated by the Supreme Court panel.
