Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister meets President

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister, Smt. Archna Chitnis met the President Smt. Pratibha Patil in New Delhi yesterday and requested her to use her good office in early sanction of the much awaited Tapti Mega Recharge project from the Central Government.
During her meeting with the President in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Smt. Archna Chitnis apprised the former of the main features of the Tapti Mega Recharge project and the requirement of such a project in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and the benefit to be drawn by both the states on implementation of this project. Smt. Chitnis told the President that the proposed project has been sent to the Central Government with the recommendations of the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the joint initiative of the Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The case of proposed project would be put up before the Central Government by the end of March for its approval.

Smt. Archna Chitnis further informed that the Tapti Mega Recharge project is an unparalled project of its kind in the world, which is proposed to be taken up by the Government of India as a pilot project. One of the important features of this project is that 33 TMC water of Tapti river would be utilized without even a single village coming under submergence on implementation of this project. Land measuring one lakh 59 thousand 993 hectares of Madhya Pradesh adjoining Tapti basin and one lakh 69 thousand 400 hectares land of Maharashtra would be irrigated from this project. The estimated cost of this project is about Rs. 6,000 crore The Central Ground Water Board has also described the mega recharge project as a long term beneficial and eco friendly project after conducting a ground survey of the project.
