Drive for making Bio-conservation Ambassadors

20 thousand children of the state will be connected with this campaign
Over 20,000 students of Navodaya Schools in the state will be made 'Jaiv Sanrakshan Doots' (Bio-conservation Ambassadors). The campaign was launched from Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ratibad in Bhopal district by Secretary Biodiversity and Biotechnology Shri Jabbar Dhakwala on the occasion of International Biodiversity Year 2010.
Mostly, children from rural background get admitted to Navodaya schools. With this in view, Biodiversity Board has decided to make these schoolchildren aware of importance of the biodiversity wealth in their own villages and motivate them to conserve it during the International Biodiversity Year 2010. At the programme held at Ratibad Navodaya Vidyalaya, a workshop was held and competitions of drama, quiz, poster making and painting were organised.
In the next academic session of Navodaya schools, which beings from April 1, 100 pits will be dug in every Navodaya school where students taking admission in class VI will plant saplings of rare species. For the next seven years, these children will nurture and nourish the saplings planted by them. The children whose saplings grow successfully will be taken on the tour of important destinations of biodiversity.

After witnessing Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ratibad's students expressing deep understanding in the field of bio-conservation, Shri Jabbar Dhakwala said that he is assured that this next generation has the ability to do something good in the direction of bio-conservation. He described this very vital since the existence of entire humanity depends on it. On this occasion, Shri Abhilash Dubey of Biodiversity Board threw light on the campaign's background. He informed that one thousand saplings of rare and endangered trees will be planted in Navodaya schools.Later, winners of various competitions were given prizes.
