Bhopal:Saturday, September 26, 2009:Updated 21:00IST The strict enforcement of the Madhya Pradesh Sugar Control Order all across the state has frustrated the evil designs of black-marketeers and hoarders of sugar in the last two months. Now, the sugar hoarders finding themselves hard-pressed in the wake of Sugar Control Order has left no other option before them but to indulging in hatching a vicious plot to create artificial shortage of sugar in the market.
On the other hand, with the state’s Food Administration’s alertness and apprehension it has managed to secure sufficient allotment of sugar quota to meet the situation. The state has been allotted as much as 40 lakh quintals of sugar under the Public Distribution System for the month of October.
This has become possible due to the persistent demand made by the Minister of State for Food, Shri Paras Chandra Jain, pursing the issue with the Centre. To take the consignment of this allotment, a team of officers is being sent to Mumbai soon, which will bring it to Madhya Pradesh by a special rack. The cost of this sugar is being paid at once.
Sugar to be sold @ Rs. 13.50 per kg.
On the occasion of Deepawali next month, the BPL card holders and beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana under the Public Distribution System, will get the sugar at the rate of Rs. 13.50. They will be provided 3.2 kilograms of sugar on each ration-card. This will be in increased quantity. The sugar will be made available to this category of consumers through the fair price shops.
Elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth distribution
Moreover, the state government has made elaborate arrangements, directing all the district Collectors to ensure smooth distribution of sugar to the beneficiaries in the prescribed quantity at the above mentioned rates. The Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Shri Paras Chandra Jain, Principal Secretary, Shri Ashok Das and Commissioner, Shri Ajit Kesari would themselves review regularly these arrangements so that the consumers do not face any difficulty in getting the sugar.
No agenda from sugar traders so far
Meanwhile, the state government has clarified that so far it has not received agenda pertaining to the demands of the sugar traders. It may be mentioned that recently a few delegations of sugar traders had met the MoS Shri Paras Chandra Jain at Ujjain and had mentioned some of their difficulties in this regard.
These traders had also wanted to meet the Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan to seek a solution to their difficulties. But, in fact till date, the food administration has not received any formal agenda of sugar traders’ demands.
