Ideological commitment and firm action can drive away terrorism. Everyone must have reasonable understanding of anatomy of terrorism to fight it out. Demonstration of strong political will can root out terrorism.
These views came from experts including former editor of Panchajanya Shri Devendra Swaroop while addressing the second session under late Manik Chandra Vajpayee National Award for Journalism – 2008 at Bharat Bhavan here today. The topic of discussion was “Challenges of Global Terrorism and Role of India.” Minister for Culture and Public Relations Shri Laxmikant Sharma was present.
Shri Devendra Swaroop said that the India can fight out such giant social evil with its spiritual strength. Time has come take a firm action. Political leadership must come forward to join the fight. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi he said that it was his spiritual power, which supported him in his struggle against the foreign rule.
He said that society’s active participation and involvement is far more necessary than government’s action. Terrorists use a number of means to frighten people. They use media to spread their messages and demoralize the righteous citizens.
Shri Deepak said that terrorists are fallen citizen and turn revengeful towards the society. The society can send them a strong message that people are ready to make sacrifices for the motherland. Strong political will is the key to success in this community-driven fight. India should strengthen itself intellectually to keep away the divisive thoughts that ultimately boost up terrorism.
Dr. Shankar Sharan of NCERT said that media should desist from its duplicity. Docments seized from terrorists must be examined thoroughly to know where that the ideological roots of terrorism. What terrorists say must be known to the society so that their ill-designs are known by one and all. He said that the terrorism can be answered strongly by strong logics and thoughts. Indian can take a lead in a decisive fight against global terrorism.
Dr. Pavan Sinha professor of political sciences at University of Delhi the terrorism intends to upset economic foundations. Economic recession is further leading to terrorism. He said that South Asian nations should be more cautious. Stressing the need for strengthening security he said that the terrorists can reach out to nuclear weapons.
Deputy Inspector General Police Shri Anuradha Shankar said that terrorism is a negative tool to fight against the government. She said that terrorism is all pervasive. Terrorists act only to kill the innocent lives.
Introducing the topic, Commissioner Public Relations Shri Manoj Shrivastava said that psychological aspect of terrorism should be understood well. He said that terrorists are those who have lost respect for themselves. They are no concern with any politics, religion or society.
