Bhopal:Saturday, August 22, 2009:Updated 21:50IST The drive against hoarding and profiteering of sugar should be continued and there should be no delay in issuing licenses of sugar trading to the traders. The Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan issued these instructions at a review meeting at the Rajya Mantralaya here today. The Minister of State (independent charge) for Food and Civil Supplies, Shri Paras Chandra Jain, Principal Secretary, Food, Shri A.K. Das and other concerning officers also attended the review meeting.
It was informed at the meeting that so far as much as 43 thousand 184 quintals of sugar was seized in the search carried out at 425 places under the drive in the state. And, cases have been registered against the erring traders in seven cases. As a result of this drive, the retail price of sugar has dropped by Rs. three per kilogram.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister Shri Chouhan observed that the statewide drive launched with a view to checking the prices of essential commodities has yielded good results. He further added that the administration has to ensure that the traders in general do not face any difficulty, licenses are issued in the prescribed time limit of 15 days and the traders do not earn profit of more than two percent.
He also directed to initiate steps for encouraging and felicitating the traders who have come forward voluntarily making arrangements for distribution of sugar at reasonable rates to the consumers at a number of places in the state. The Chief Minister Shri Chouhan disclosed that he himself would hold discussions with traders organizations in this regard.
Discusses The Issue With Shri Sharad Pawar Over Telephone
On being informed about the less release of 2.5 lakh tones of levy sugar to Madhya Pradesh in the last seven months, the Chief Minister Shri Chouhan immediately took up the issue with the Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar over the telephone and requested the latter to release this sugar quota to the state soon.
During the telephonic conversation, Shri Chouhan also requested the Union Agriculture Minister to extend necessary cooperation to make available sugar to Madhya Pradesh traders at reasonable rates from the sugar mills of Maharashtra. He said that in the prevailing situation the sugar mills should not earn a profit of not more than one percent on wholesale trading of sugar. The Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar assured the Chief Minister of necessary action in both the issues.
