Kharif sowing process has intensified after rainfall in various regions of Madhya Pradesh. So far, sowing has been completed in 81-lakh hectare area. A target of sowing in 106.70 lakh hectare area has been set in the state during the Kharif season.During the Kharif season, soyabean has been sown in 46 lakh hectare area so far against the target of 50.75 lakh hectare. Sowing of maize and millet is also in progress at a rapid pace. Maize has been sown in 7.50 lakh hectare and millet in 3.20 lakh hectare. The process of planting paddy saplings has also intensified after intermittent rains in the state. Against the target of 16.25 hectare, paddy has been sown in 6.30 lakh hectare area so far.
Division-wise, Indore and Ujjain are leading in sowing. In both these districts 91 percent of sowing has been completed. Ninety percent sowing in Bhopal and 88 percent in Narmadapuram has been undertaken followed by about 65 percent in Rewa and Sagar, 57 percent in Gwalior, 44 percent in Chambal-Morena and 41 percent sowing has been completed in Shahdol division.
Director Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development Dr. DN Sharma informed that Kharif sowing has been done enthusiastically. Agriculture Department has advised farmers now to undertake sowing of crops which ripe in shorter period.
These include Moong, Urad (White lentil), linseed and small millet etc. The areas where sowing is still continuing farmers should sow another crop also along with the first crop so that seeds can be saved from ill-effects of weather. Director Agriculture has instructed all the agriculture workers to reach fields of farmers and guide them on using appropriate fertlisers and insecticides.
