UNICEF team makes surprise check of Bairagarh Centre
A five-member UNICEF team led by Dr. Steve Collins, president, Valid Nutrition of Ireland reached Bhopal recently and made a surprise check of Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre at Bairagarh Hospital in Bhopal. During the inspection, Dr. Collins was so much impressed by caretaking of malnourished children, sanitary arrangements and centres functioning that he wrote in his remarks 'I have been visiting NRCs for over 20 years and this is the best-run centre I have ever visited. Congratulations.' The team has termed the facilities at the NRC as of international level. Dr. Collins was accompanied by Valid International's Special Project Officer Dr James Lee and officials of UNICEF's Delhi, Patna and Bhopal units.
Dr. Collins and Dr. Lee enquired mother of every child admitted at the centre about the available facilities, caretaking, diet supply and increase in the weight of malnourished children. The team also visited the kitchen enquired the staff about latest techniques, diet system, admission process and other details and expressed satisfaction and happiness over the arrangements.
It may be mentioned that malnourished children from Bairagarh, Gandhi Nagar and nearby areas are taken care of at Bairagarh NRC. The team has also lauded the efforts put in by Bairagarh Civil Hospital's superintendent Dr. Amita Dubey and other staff members as well as local public representatives. Praise of an Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre from an international organisation is a shot in the arm of the state government at a time when it is trying for victory over malnutrition.
The team comprised Dr. Mohammad, Dr. Deepti Shrivastava, Smt. Kajli, Smt. Raj from UNICEF Delhi, Dr Alok I Ranjan of UNICEF Patna and Smt. Rashmi Patel, Smt. Soumya, Smt. Vandana and Smt. Kavita of UNICEF Bhopal.
