Over 1200 hostels and ashrams being run by Tribal Welfare Department

 Students securing place in merit list to be honoured
The state government is undertaking sustained efforts for improvement of tribal students' educational standard. With this in view, seats have been increased in the hostels and ashrams being run by Tribal Welfare Department.
Special attention is being given to the quality of material being provided to reserved class students by the state government. Tribal Welfare Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has instructed incharges of hostels and ashrams to give special attention to students' studies during the annual exams. Reserved class students who secure a place in the merit list will be honoured by the department.

Twenty new pre-matric hostels have been started in the state for the scheduled tribes' students of classes 6 to 10. Now, the number of pre-matric hostels has gone up to 1282 in the state. In the current year, 2000 seats have also been increased in these hostels. In all, 50500 students of classes 6 to 10 are getting the facility of pre-matric hostels in Madhya Pradesh. They are getting facilities of lodging, food, text-books and sports goods free of cost.

Academic facilities are being provided in the ashram premises itself to scheduled tribe students of classes 1 to 8. As many as 55500 students are staying and studying in 950 ashram schools being run by Tribal Welfare Department. Out of these, 448 ashram schools are for girls.
