MoUs were also signed with 42 companies
Effective efforts are being undertaken to increase power generation and installed capacity in the state in view of ever-increasing demand for power. The state government is working at a fast pace to make Madhya Pradesh self-reliant in power generation. The government has set a target of increasing power generation by 5186 megawatts by the year 2013. Besides, MoUs have been signed with 42 private sector companies for installing power plants for generating 55 thousand megawatt power.
For achieving the target to increase power generation by 5186 MW, the Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company has started work of 1200 MW extension unit of Shri Singaji thermal power plant and 500 MW unit of Satpura thermal power plant, Sarni. Besides, an MoU has been signed with BHEL for establishing a 1600 MW capacity power plant in Khandwa district. The National Thermal Power Corporation has also signed an MoU to set up a 2640 MW power plant at Gadarwara in Narsinghpur district. Reliance company is also establishing 4000 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Project in Singrauli district. Madhya Pradesh will get 1600 MW power from this project.
