Sports budget increased by 12 fold

C.M. Inaugurates sports complex at Vidisha
Bhopal:Wednesday, August 26, 2009:Updated 19:35IST The Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that all out efforts are being made to promote sports talents and sports in Madhya Pradesh so that the players of this state may bring laurels to the country at national and international sports events. Shri Chouhan said this while inaugurating a sports complex constructed at a cost of Rs. three crore at Vidisha today.
Finance Minister Shri Raghavji, Minister for Sports Shri Tukojirao Puar, Minister of State for Revenue Shri Karan Singh Verma, Member of Parliament Smt. Sushma Swaraj, district BJP President Shri Umakant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Ranjana Chaudhary, Bhopal Divisional Commissioner Dr. Pukhraj Maroo and Director Sports Shri Sanjay Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that Madhya Pradesh Government has increased the budget of sports department to Rs.50 crore this year. It was merely Rs. four crore five years ago. He said that all possible efforts are being made to afford better opportunities to the sports talents, particularly in rural areas of the state. The day is not very far-off when Madhya Pradesh will enjoy a distinct identity in the world of sports.
Shri Chouhan also inaugurated the flood light system in the sports complex. He announced the sanction of Rs. one crore for synthetic track in the complex. He said that efforts are being made to develop the stadium in such a manner that national and international level sports events may be organised there.
The Chief Minister dedicated to people different development schemes costing about Rs. 11 crore in Vidisha district today. He said that efforts are afoot to develop Vidisha as a beautiful and well equipped city. He performed bhoomi pujan for a sewer line for the city to be laid at a cost of Rs. 2.18 crore.
He also laid the foundation for Shaheed Jyoti Stambh to be raised at a cost of Rs. 16.44 lakh. He said that tourism will be developed in the district and tourism development works costing about Rs. 4.75 crore will be taken up there.
He inaugurated a milk chilling plant by flagging off a milk van. He said that along with making agriculture a profitable occupation efforts would be made for development of allied activities. Beneficiary oriented dairy development schemes will be undertaken in the district for this purpose.
Member of Parliament Smt. Sushma Swaraj said that there is no dearth of sports talents in rural areas but due to lack of opportunities they fail to live upto their potential. She was all praise for the efforts being made by Madhya Pradesh Government to provide better facilities and opportunities to rural sports talents.
She said that the Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to spend Rs. 22 crore out of its Rs.50 crore sports budget in rural areas, which deserves all praise. Finance Minister Shri Raghavji spoke in details about the development works being carried out under the leadership of the Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Minister for Sports and Tourism Shri Tukojirao Puar welcomed the guests and dwelt at length on the activities being carried out for promotion of sports and tourism in the state.
The facilities available in the sports complex inaugurated today include athletic track, football ground, basketball court, synthetic tennis court of international level, kho kho and kabaddi ground, modern gymnasium hall, multi-gym machine, wrestling mat etc.
