Mata Ki Rasoi for destitute persons

Destitute persons in this small village will no longer be worried about their daily meals in Kudaratola village. They will simply go to Mata Ki Rasoi at 10am and 6-00pm to have meals.
Kudaratola village in Jaisinghnagar block of Shahdol district has taken up a unique step to ensure two-time meals to the neediest persons in the village under Mata Ki Rasoi programme.
It is a community-driven kitchen for the most vulnerable persons. Multiple livelihoods promotion activities supported by Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Project are underway in the village.
Kudaratola is a small village having 264 households mostly of Gond tribe. Situated about 90 km. from Jaisinghhagar block headquarters and 110 km. in the north–east of Shahdol district headquarters, Kudaratola village community has come up with an Destitute persons in this small village will no longer be worried about their daily meals in Kudaratola village. Kudaratola is a small village having 264 households mostly of Gond tribe. Situated about 90 km. from Jaisinghhagar block headquarters and 110 km. in the north–east of Shahdol district headquarters, Kudaratola village community has come up with an exemplary decision to serve the ultra poor.
According to Sidhi cluster coordinator MPLRP, Pramod Shrivastava, the Gram Sabha identified Jagotia Bai, Mugiya Bai, Devan Das, Nan Bai Agariya and Bundi Bai as the ultra poor, who cannot manage to prepare their meals.
Jagotia Bai is visually impaired. Mugiya Bai is a widow. Devan Das is around 60 and has nobody to take care of him. Nan Bai Agaria and Bundi Bai are destitute. All of them are above 60 years of age, he informs.
Gram Sabha came forward to ensure social protection to these persons. Well-off families of the village voluntarily contributed foodgrains to run the Mata Ki Rasoi. So far two quintals of rice and wheat have been contributed.
A female cook Ramvati Bai from the same village has been engaged to cook meals at Mata Ki Rasoi, which has been started at extra residential portion of house of Dadhival Singh Gond. “I am happy that such a good work has started from my residence, he says.
Member of Legislative Assembly from Biohari assembly constituency Shri Bali Singh promised to extend all possible cooperation for smooth operation of Mata Ki Rasoi.
Commending the initiative of Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Project, he desires to replicate this in other villages. “There is no better way to socially protect the poor observes Jaisinghnagar Janapad Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mr. Om Prakash Dwivedi. Cooperation and support to this unique initiative will continue, he adds.
Secretary of Chhapratola Gram Panchayat Avdhesh Prasad Mishra says that Kudaratola village has scripted a history of its kind. Bank account in the name of Mata Ki Rasoi has been opened at Central Bank of India rural branch. Anybody can voluntary contribute to it. So far about Rs. 2000 has been deposited.
The happiest person is Sarpanch Kamlesh Singh Marko. If a system is evolved and supported by everyone it will sustain long, he says adding that now the individual gesture for the poor has been replaced by the popular one. We will take all possible care to ensure that the neediest get benefits from Mata Ki Rasoi. “I am happy that nobody will remain empty belly in my village now, he adds.
Shahdol District Project Officer MPRLP Dhananjay Barlinge informs that field staff pro-actively supported the community’s idea of ensuring meals to the poor. He termed it as the most practical community action saying that everything depends upon the understanding and sensitivity of community.
When asked about day-to-day management of kitchen, the deputy Sarpanch Nan Bai informs that vegetables, cooking oil and other essentials will be kept in stock so that meals are ready at the right time.
We together will keep on inquiring and manage accordingly she informs. Youngsters like Balkaran and Kamalbhan are ready to give their services at any time. Elders like Ramayan, Mahabali and Foolbai observe that a good work has started with everyone’s support. It would be our collective responsibility to keep it going smoothly.
