India's military capability is no match for China


With the swine flu toll rising in the country, papers highlight the government's stategy to tackle the disease. Both the Hindustan Times and the Economic Times put the rising panic in the country about swine flu in perspective. Hindustan Times says the common flu could be killing as many as 572 people a day and there is needless fear about this disease.
A mild stain of the virus H1N1 is driving India into a frenzy, cautions the Economic Times, while we risk ignoring the real threat of drought in Bharat. All papers highlight the Met department downgrading the monsoon forecast to below 90%.
The Pioneer reporting on the impact of this, which is one of the worst ever monsoons says that, the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has scaled down the GDP growth forecast to 5.8%. Leading credit rating agency CRISIL also paints a negative scenario.
Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta admitting that India's military capability is no match for China and we should cooperate and not compete with it, is a front-page story in many papers.
