Bhopal:Wednesday, August 12, 2009:Updated 19:19IST Now, the government offices located all across the state would not be allowed to use air-conditioners. The use of air-conditioners leads to increase in consumption of electricity which further widens the gap between the demand and supply of electricity in the state.
Decision to impose complete restriction on use of air-conditioning machines was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the Rajya Mantralaya here today.
Shri Chouhan himself started the implementation of this decision by switching off the air-conditioner with the help of remote control in the Conference Room of his office in Mantralaya. With this, the Chief Minister, Shri Chouhan has also appealed to the people of the state to help save electricity.
Reviewing the status of availability and supply of electricity, the Chief Minister Shri Chouhan directed the Chief Executive Directors of the power distribution companies to ban the use of neon lights on advertisement hoardings in their respective jurisdictions.
However, all the government hospitals in the state would be exempted from the use of air-conditioners. Moreover, the officers and employees in whose offices misuse of electricity is found, disciplinary action would be taken against such erring officials.
The Chief Minister, Shri Chouhan also directed to ensure better distribution of electricity as per its availability. He said that cooperation of private establishments and people in general is must in containing the wastage of electricity. Shri Chouhan also appealed to the people to extend cooperation from today itself for restricted use of electricity.
The Chief Minister also apprised himself of the progress of the work of installation of separate feeders for agricultural and domestic purposes.
The Energy Minister, Shri Anup Mishra, Chief Secretary Shri Rakesh Sahni, Energy Secretary Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyay and senior officers of the power distribution companies also attended the meeting.
