Bhopal Development Plan-2021 ready

Six-lane flyovers, multistoried parking sites, rapid transport system

Bhopal:Friday, August 28, 2009:Updated 17:10IST The Directorate of Town and Country Planning has prepared the draft of Bhopal Development Plan-2021. It will be published on August 29 under the provisions of Madhya Pradesh Town and Country Planning Act, 1973.
Due information in this regard will be published in the gazette. Copies of the plan will be available in the offices of the district collector, chief executive officer of Bhopal Development Authority, commissioner, Municipal Corporation, chief municipal officer of Kolar municipality and director, Town and Country Planning.
The draft plan may be inspected from August 20 on working days during office hours. Objections and suggestions about it can be given within 30 days from the date of its publication.
The plan has been prepared for a population of 32 lakh and about 800 square kilometer has been included in the planning area. In addition to Bhopal municipal corporation area, 124 villages have been incorporated in the plan, which include Kolar municipal area.
There are 14 lakes measuring 3825 hectare in Bhopal city. For conservation of these lakes use of green belt around them is proposed so as to prevent constructions there. At the rate of ten hectare per thousand persons 32 thousand hectare land is proposed for every classified use for urbanization.
The urban heritage areas include the Upper Lake, Fatehgarh Fort, city proper, Shahjahanabad-Shahjahan Beghum and Jehangirabad area. Construction of 25 thousand dwelling units in phases is proposed in the plan for BPL families and rehabilitation of slums.
To accelerate the pace of commercial development, activities are proposed at many places to ensure a planned development of commerce and to discourage commercial activities in residential premises. The points suggested in the Global Environment City Plan prepared by Bhopal Municipal Corporation under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission have also been incorporated in the Development Plan-2021.
The pointes suggested by Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation for tourism development have been included in it. The recommendations of forest department for development of Kerwa for eco tourism along with conservation of forests have also been incorporated in the plan.
As per the proposal of the district commerce and industries center, sites have been selected for use as per direction of air and on the basis of water and traffic. The plan proposes the development of the mining notified area proposed by the mining section of Bhopal collector office in villages Sankal Padaria, Samasgarh, Ratibarh, Chhapari, Thuakheda and Sarvar.
Provision of 345 MLD water and laying of sewage line for a population of 25 lakh is proposed in the plan. Besides, the plan proposes construction of six-lane flyovers, multistoried parkings, local train between Bairagarh and Mandideep, sub ways, under bridges and metro train.
The rapid transport system would be completed in six phases to ensure its benefit to entire city. This is a cheaper alternative of metro train and sky train. Six-lane over bridges would be constructed at Habibganj railway crossing, Aishbagh railway crossing, Chhola road railway crossing, Berasia road railway crossing and VIP road Lalghati railway crossing.
The plan proposes developing multistoried parking places at Roshanpura, near Quality Restaurant, near Ravindra Bhawan, behind Priyadarshani Park, near Halalpur bus stand, Putalighar, behind Apsara Talkies, near Bharat Talkies Mal Godam, M.P. Nagar Zone-1, M.P. Nagar zone-2, near Bhopal Hat Mela, Iqbal Maidan, 10 Number Stop, Vijay Market Barkheda, near Bus Stand Chouraha, near railway station on Habibia school road and near Budhwara square.
The underbridges will be constructed at Rangmahal square, Apex Bank square, 10 Number trisection, Board Office square, Royal Market square, Bus Stand square, Bhopal Talkies square, Budhwara square, Bharat Talkies square and Bhawani Chowk (Peer Gate).
The plan also proposes development of exhibition venue and fair ground at Jamboree Maidan and village Akbarpur, Kolar road. The bypass road upto Yatayat Nagar has already been constructed on Hoshangabad road and work beyond it would be taken up. Permission for petrol pumps, motels, resorts, Dhabas, restaurants, I.T. Park would be granted upto a depth of 150 meter along the roadside.
Total 32 lakh population will require 432 MLD water on which an expenditure of Rs. 614 crore 63 lakh is estimated. The length of proposed sewage network will be 500 km. Cent percent area will be connected to the sewage system by year 2021. Drainage system would be provided along all main roads. It also proposes a mechanism for collection and transportation of solid wastes in scientific manner.
