Women are now being given the responsibility of monitoring with a view to strengthening their role in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme-MP. The state government has issued instructions in this respect.
Now women will have one-third representation in the social audit of works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme-MP. The social audit work is going to be started soon. In the coming days social audit will be undertaken in about 50 thousand Gram Sabhas in over 23 thousand Gram Panchayats. A Social Audit Committee will be constituted in every Gram Sabha. The committee members will be labourers who undertake works of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme-MP. Each committee must consist of five or more members.
If a five-member committee is formed it must have two women as its members. In this way, more than one lakh women will take part in Gram Sabhas in the coming days to monitor works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The Gram Panchayat will provide records pertaining to NREGA to the committee for social audit. The audit committee will verify these documents and also read out its report at the Gram Sabha. The committee will also go into any financial irregularity or complaint in the works. Any person can give information to the committee.
All the complaints received by the committee during the social audit will also be presented by it before the Gram Sabha which will in turn redress the complaints and take necessary action.
