Over 2.50 Lakh People Earning Livelihood Through PMCS

Bhopal:Tuesday, July 28, 2009:Updated 19:40IST In order to make farmers economically stronger, about two lakh 55 thousand people in rural areas have been associated with primary milk cooperative societies in Madhya Pradesh. At present, five thousand 511 such Primary Milk Cooperative Societies (PMCS) are functioning in the state.
During the year 2008-09, five milk federations’ functioning at Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur registered average milk collection of five lakh 15 thousand 989 kilolitres per day. While the average local milk sale was four lakh eight thousand 392 litres per day.
The milk sale under the National Milk Grid was registered at the rate of one lakh 60 thousand 947 literes per day outside the state during the period under report. The cooperative dairy structure not only benefit directly to milk producing members of the cooperative society but is strengthening the rural economy indirectly too.
It may be mentioned that in Madhya Pradesh, three-tier system has been introduced to benefit milk producers. At the first level, M.P. State Cooperative Federation Limited (MPCDF) is functioning on the lines of “Anand” system.
At second level, five regional cooperative milk federations are functioning at Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur. The third level include primary milk cooperative societies through which farmers are being provided additional livelihood opportunity through animal husbandry.
