Bargi diversion project to get national project status soon

 Project is expected to be completed by 2015
The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the Narmada Valley Development Authority's progress and specially the Omkareshwar project works here today. Shri Chouhan holds weekly reviews of NVDA.
Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Shri K.L. Agrawal, vice chairman Shri O.P. Rawat and senior officers were present.

Shri Chouhan apprised himself of the progress of awarding the national project status to Bargi diversion project. He was informed that the Planning commission has agreed to the proposal. All requisite formalities have been made. Soon the project will get the status of national project.

The Chief Minister asked the officers to go for campus recruitment of engineers to overcome the shortage of engineers for NVDA projects. He said that this initiative will provide engineers for the projects in both water resources department and NVDA.

Shri Chouhan also apprised himself of the progress of bringing Narmada water in the districts of Ujjain division. He was informed that the preparation of detailed project report is underway.

It was informed that the dam and hydel power station have been completed under the Omkareshwar project. The Supreme Court has allowed to continue the construction of canal. Instructions have been given to submit revised command area development plan, which would be ready this year.

Construction of canals under the Project is expected to be completed by 2015. Involving a cost of Rs. 2505, the canal would irrigate one lakh 46 thousand 800 hectare. Presently main carrier canal and Narmada aquaduct have been completed while railway crossing work is going on.
