50 thousand seats allotted to B.E

Technical Education Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma has today issued allotment of 48 thousand 801 seats to B. E. Courses through online counseling today. Apart from this, under NRI quota, admissions were given on 1300 NRI seats. At the first stage itself more than 50 thousand seats of B. E. Course was filled up. This is a record.
Last year only 43 thousand seats were filled up. This year there will be counseling for two more stages and it is expected that almost all seats will be filled up. During the last 10 years this is the first time so many seats were filled up in the last week of July.

Now classes could be started from first week of August. The achievement is more important in the sense that during the last three years this is the first time that without any court cases the counseling was conducted.

Last year less number of seats was filled up. In view of this the Technical Education Minister had directed to constitute a committee and put the admission process on the online to ensure transparency.

On the recommendations of the committee, the state government decided to counsel on line and off campus with high tech technique computer software for all professional course admissions to B.E., B. Pharmacy, M.E., M. Tech, Diploma and other courses.

Perhaps, this is for the first time in the country high tech software was used for 46 types of reservation provisions and allotment of seats to 216 engineering colleges. Parallel counseling was also done for different courses.

Saving time and money

At the online off campus counseling the students participated in it according to their own convenience. This has saved crores of rupees being spent so far for traveling to the big cities and other allied expenses from far flung rural areas to attend counseling. It is expected that the students and their family members used to spend around Rs 30 crore to 40 crore every year in this way.

Benefit of tution fee waiving off

The state government has given admission to 3704 students of economically backward class, women and handicapped and whose annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand, their tution fee were waived off. The students admitted under this category will not have to pay their tution fee during their four year course. The annual tution fee is approximately Rs 50 thousand per student. This way, the above students will save around Rs 75 crore.
