prisoners to have telephone facility twice a week now

Prisoners will be entitled for incoming calls alone
The prisoners lodged in the Central Jails of the state will now be able to talk to their relatives over telephone twice a week. The maximum duration of the talk will be five minutes. Every prisoner will have the facility of talking to his or her relatives, friend or lawyer twice a week through telephone. The Jail Department has issued a circular in this connection to Director General Jail and Reformative Services.
This telephone facility will be available for only those prisoners whose residence is situated 50 kilometres or more away from the Central Jail where they are lodged. This facility will be available for only those prisoners who have been sentenced for more than 10 years' or life term. They will be eligible for this facility right from the day one of starting their sentence.

These prisoners will be entitled for incoming calls alone. The officials monitoring this talk can disconnect the phone call immediately if there is any mention of a fact which can undermine jail security or is subversive otherwise and will inform about it to the concerning authorities. If the irregularity is established after investigation, the facility given to the guilty prisoner will be discontinued and proceedings will be started against him under jail crime.
