Permission was issued by the Central Government
The Central Forest and Environmental Ministry vide letter dated May 10 has issued permission to complete construction of seven gates of Maheshwar dam. This permission was issued by the Central Government after receipt of technical advice from Central Water Commission
and a meeting between the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Government, Shri Avni Vaish.It may be mentioned here that this decision was taken on the initiative of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh after request of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The state government is determined to rehabilitate the displaced families that came under submergence of the dam.
