63rd meeting of MP Fisheries Federation
Bhopal:Friday, July 17, 2009:Updated 17:50IST Fisheries and Farmers' Welfare Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that fish production will have to be increased with a view to making agriculture profitable. This will also ensure employment to large number of people in the state. Dr. Kusmaria instructed officers to convey benefits of cooperative movement to maximum number of fishermen. Fisheries Minister Dr. Kusmaria was addressing the 63rd meeting of Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation here on Thursday.
The Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation will produce 3600 tonnes of fish through cooperatives. Fisheries Minister Dr. Kusmaria said that the state government is committed to fishermen's welfare. He asked the officers that there is need for making fish marketing more effective. Dr Kusmaria also planted a sapling at Matsya Parisar on Bhadbhada road.
Managing director of MP Fisheries Federation Smt. Kanchan Jain informed that the federation has nine big reservoirs of 2 thousand hectares each. As many as 7500 fishermen affiliated to cooperative societies are fishing in these reservoirs. Last year, 2940 metric tonnes of fish was produced in these reservoirs. Smt. Jain informed that the federation is earning profit for the last three years.
The federation has deposited royalty worth Rs 60 lakh with the state government during the year 2008-09. Benefits of education, health and women & child departments' schemes are being extended to fishermen of big dams under Jaldeep Yojana. This scheme is under implementation in Indira Sagar, Ban Sagar and Bargi reservoirs. Benefits of this scheme have been extended to 4000 fishermen so far.
A pisciculture cum sport fishing scheme has been launched in Kerwa reservoir. Under this scheme large fish seeds are being produced which has increased fishermen's income. A database of fishermen linked with federation's reservoirs is also be prepared.
Smt. Jain informed that the federation has established an air-conditioned fish sale centre for providing fresh and quality fish at Bhopal. This centre will be reopened with private partnership after the rainy season. Similar, centres will be opened in Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Rewa etc.
The meeting endorsed decisions taken at the meeting held on July 8, 2008 and proposed programmes and targets for the year 2009-2010. Officers of Fisheries Directorate and concerning departments were present at the meeting.
