Foundation of Rs. 145 crore medical college laid
Sagar:Wednesday, November 14, 2007:Updated 20:39IST The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan laid the foundation stone of the sixth government medical college to be set up at a cost of Rs. 145 crore here today. It is after a gap of about four decades that a new government college is being opened in Madhya Pradesh. The teaching would start from next academic session in this college. Former Union Minister Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi was chief guest on the occasion.While addressing a massive public meeting on the occasion the Chief Minister said that people of this region deserve a medical college, which had been denied to them for decades. Now better medical facilities would be available to the people of this region. He assured that the construction of the medical college would be completed within the scheduled period. Shri Chouhan said that the medical college would be equipped with all necessary facilities.
Shri Chouhan reiterated state government’s commitment to all round development of Bundelkhand region and said that several decisions have been taken in last two years for this. The hurdles coming in the way of Bina Refinery have been removed and plant would provide direct employment to about five thousand people.
He said that 50 percent posts would be reserved for local people in the industries coming up in the state. He said that MoUs were signed at the recently held Global Investors Summit at Indore for establishment of new industries in Bundelkhand region. Rio Tinto Group would invest Rs. 2180 crore in iron ore based industry in Panna area and investment of Rs. 100 crore would be made for diamond mining and tourism development in Khajuraho, he added.
The Chief Minister said that significant decisions have been taken and implemented to boost health, education, agriculture, transport, power and irrigation sectors and these have started yielding visible results. Shri Chouhan stressed the need for active community participation in development efforts.
He was accorded a civic reception by various voluntary organizations and different communities on the occasion. A letter of commendation was also presented to him. Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Shri Sunderlal Patwa and State BJP president Shri Narendra Singh Tomar were also felicitated. BJP General Secretary Shri Bhupendra Singh Thakur conducted the function.
The chief Minister released a booklet that contained information about Sagar medical college being developed on an area of 29.68 acre.
Speaking as chief guest Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi called for serious united efforts by all political parties to address public problems. He said that the policies being adopted under globalization are making the poor the poorer and the rich the richer. Therefore, a radical change is needed in these policies. He said that the way Madhya Pradesh government is working for development is worth emulating by other states.
The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan is discharging his duties and responsibilities in consonance with the philosophy of Ekatm Manavatavad, he added. Dr. Joshi complemented the state government for paying proper attention to medical education and health sector, saying that establishment of the medical college at Sagar would fulfill a long-pending demand of this region.
The Minister for Medical Education, Dr. Gaurishankar Shejwar informed that the medical college is being set up at Sagar after a long wait of 42 years. He said that efforts are being made to start teaching here from academic session of 2008-09. He informed that the college would have three lecture theatres for 150 students and a separate lecture theatre is being constructed for 375students.
The college would have a modern library comprising over ten thousand books. There would be separate arrangement for teachers to study. Besides, the college would have separate common halls for girl and boy students and the administrative department would be well facilitated. It would also have 15 labs, 16 demonstration halls and seven museums.
Minister for Agriculture Shri Gopal Bhargava said that the Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given many valuable gifts to Bundelkhand region in one and half years. He said that the medical college at Sagar would be a modern one having all necessary facilities.
Shri Narendra Singh Tomar said that the state government deserves all complements for setting up the medical college to meet a long-felt need of Bundelkhand region.Shri Chouhan and Dr. Joshi laid the foundation of the college amidst chanting of Vedic mantras and Swasti Vachan. The folk artists of Bundelkhand region presented folk dances and folk songs on the occasion.
Earlier, Shri Chouhan performed Bhoomi Pujan for Sagar medical college on the premises of Tili hospital. He straightaway reached the site of the college from helicopter and inspected the works done so far. Member of Parliament Smt. Sumitra Mahajan; BJP president Shri Narendra Singh Tomar; Minister for Medical Education Dr. Gaurishankar Shejwar; Minister for Housing and Environment Shri Jayant Malaiya; Minister for Health Shri Ajay Vishnoi; Member of Parliament Shri Veerndra Singh; MLA Smt.Sudha Jain were also present.
