The inter-ministerial central team constituted by the Government of India to assess drought situation in Madhya Pradesh arrived Madhya Pradesh today. Divided into three groups, the team would tour in drought-hit areas of Sagar, Shahdol, Gwalior, Rewa and Chambal divisions on September 8 and 9, 2009. After assessing the drought situation, the team would reach Bhopal on Sept. 10 and participate in the meeting to be chaired by the Chief Secretary, Shri Rakesh Sahni.
The Joint Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India, Shri Pankaj Kumar has been appointed as team leader. The Group-1 includes Director, Central Water Commission, Shri S.K. Haldar; Director (RC), Ministry of Rural Development, Shri Sanjay Kumar; Under Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Shri Lalit Chouhan and Technical Officer, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Shri G.K. Deb.
The second group includes Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Shri Pankaj Kumar; Joint Director, Directorate of Cotton, Shri S.M. Kothatkar and Additional Adviser, Department of Drinking Water Supply, Shri R.M. Deshpande. The Deputy Adviser (Agri), Planning commission, Dr. A.K. Tiwari; Assistant Director, Department of Expenditure, Shri Mewaram and Assistant Adviser (PHE), Shri M. Dhamdayatan are members of the third group. The first and second groups arrived Khajuraho and third Gwalior, today.
The group-1 would take a stock of the drought situation in Panna, Satna, Rewa districts onSeptember 8 and in Shahdol, Umaria and Anuppur districts on September 9, 2009. The group-2 would undertake tour of drought hit villages of Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh districts on September 8, Sagar and Damoh districts on September 9. The group-3 is visiting drought affected areas of Gwalior, Bhind and Morena districts on September 8 and districts of Sheopur, Shivpuri and Ashoknagar on September 9. After inspecting the drought affected areas of Guna district, the group would leave for Bhopal to participate in a meeting to be presided by the Chief Secretary.
