Bhopal:Friday, July 31, 2009:Updated 18:10IST The Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare (independent charge), Smt. Ranjana Baghel has urged the central government for allotment of wheat/rice to Madhya Pradesh as per the demand for distribution of supplementary nutrition through Anganwadi centers.
In a letter to the Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development (independent charge) Smt. Krishna Tirath, Smt. Ranjana Baghel said that Madhya Pradesh had placed a demand of 1.25 lakh metric tonne wheat and 15 thousand metric tonne wheat against which it has received only 10 thousand 850 tonne wheat and 1857 metric tonne rice in April under the first quarter.Second quarter is on but wheat/rice quota has not been received yet from the Women and Child Development Department of Government of India. The continuity of distribution of supplementary nutrition through Anganwadis is being adversely affected due to non-availability of BPL wheat and rice, she added.

She informed that supplementary nutrition is being distributed to children of 6 month to 6 years age and expectant and nursing mothers through Anganwadi centers. Wheat is required to prepare supplementary nutrition, which is received from the center under wheat based nutrition programme.
