Culture Minister reviews preparations
Bhopal:Wednesday, July 15, 2009:Updated 18:06IST The first Global Cinema Festival of Madhya Pradesh will be held at Indore from October 8 to 15. Culture Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma reviewed preparations of this Cinema festival at a high-level meeting here today. Secretary Culture Shri Manoj Shrivastava, president of Film Federation of India and other office-bearers were present at the meeting.
On the lines of International Film Festival of Goa, an idea has been conceived to hold first Global Cinema Festival of Madhya Pradesh. Films of international and national importance will be screened at this Cinema Festival. Best films and actors will also be honoured during the festival.
The meeting was informed that all the cinema-related personalities of Madhya Pradesh will be invited to the Cinema Festival apart from producers, directors and actors of national and international repute. The Secretary Culture has already held a meeting at Indore with local artistes and owners of cinema houses and hotels.
The Culture Minister said that this Cinema Festival will meet all the international standards. The objective behind this Cinema Festival is to promote film production activities in Madhya Pradesh apart from providing a platform for talented persons of Madhya Pradesh to come forward. There are innumerable possibilities of film-making activities in the state.
There are many religious, tourism and natural spots including Bhopal where film-making can be promoted. The cinema sector is expanding constantly. The government is making efforts to increase participation of Madhya Pradesh in this sector and the proposed Global Cinema Festival is one of these efforts.
Those present at the meeting included Film Federation of India president Shri Jitendra Jain, secretary Shri Supran Sen, Shri Devendra Khandelwal of Mumbai and Culture Director Shri Shriram Tiwari.
